Block party featuring live music, activities for children set Aug. 3
COATESVILLE>> A block party featuring live music, food and activities for children will take place in Coatesville on Aug. 3
Hosted by Movement Community Development Corporation, the Block Buster Block Party will be held from 11 a. m. to 6 p. m., on Lincoln High way between Second and Third avenues in Coatesville.
The event will raise funds for the restoration and reopening of the Historic Ash Park Pool which is centrally located in the City of Coatesville.
The Block Party will be complete with water games provided by Watergun Fun, train rides, great entertainment and many vendors. Entertainment will include the East Coast’s No. 1 DJ,
Dre Money, DJ Papo, Diamond Divas Step Team ( The Next Generation), The CMS Elite, The Soulful Sounds by Briz & The Revival Band, Forward Impact Life Ministries & Malinda Mattson.
Vendors will provide food, arts, crafts, apparel and accessories. Social, health services and other public outreach organizations will also have booths at the event.
The event is the brainchild of MCDC’s Founder and Executive Officer, Alphonso “Fonz” Newsuan. Seven other community residents are volunteer board and committee members. This project is a top priority for MCDC because of the lack of summer activities in the city for children and families.
MCDC has developed a plan to reopen the Ash Park Pool that includes at least three years of operating funds, and requires the reopening to be cost neutral to the city of Coatesville.
“I am proud that the
Coatesville community is coming together to improve the city we all love,” said Fonz Newsuan. “Coatesville’s City Council passed a resolution of support unanimously. We humbly take the charge of mapping out and partnering with any organization that desires to create a path to a safe, reliable pool for Coatesville families to enjoy.”
West Chester LLC and the Coatesville Area Juvenile Alliance as key sponsors. Co- sponsors are the City of Coatesville; Coatesville Savings Bank; Wright Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., BKG- Brickus Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Aarons and a few private citizens.
At the block party, a special grant awardwill be presented to MCDC by State Senator Andrew Dinniman.
