Man arrested after smearing cocaine on woman’s face

NEWGARDEN >> A man was arrested after he assaulted a woman and smeared cocaine on her nose and mouth, police said.

Humberto Zurita- Barajas, 26, of Wilmington, was charged with terroristi­c threats, simple assault, and harassment, following an incident during which he allegedly assaulted a female by forcefully grabbing her neck and face and putting a powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine, on her nose and mouth, police said.

Zur ia- Baraja s then threatened to kill the woman’s children, police said. The incident occurred on June 23, in the 200 block of Maple Lane, in New Garden Township.

Chargeswer­e filed and an arrest warrant was issued. He was arraigned on July 3 and was initially committed to the Chester County Prison. He subsequent­ly posted $ 5,000 cash bail and was released, pending a preliminar­y hearing.

DUI

On Tuesday July 23, at 10: 02 a. m., Coatesvill­e City Police were dispatched to the intersecti­on of Oak Street and South Fourth Avenue for a welfare check on a driver in a gold Nissan. Upon arriving on location it was found that the driver, Dustin Joel Underwood of Coatesvill­e was under the influence of inhalants. He was taken into custody for DUI and other related offenses.

Aggravated assault

On Sunday, July 2, at 1: 51 p. m., police conducted a traffic stop in the area of 103 North First Avenue, Coatesvill­e. Contact was made with Victor Aguilera, 24, of Coatesvill­e. Aguilera had an active aggravated assault warrant for his arrest. Aguilera was taken into custody without incident.

Domestic disturbanc­e

On July 20 at 11: 05 a. m., officers were dispatched to the 500 Block of Elm Street for the report of a domestic disturbanc­e. Police said Takeesha Lovelace, 37, of Elm Street, and Jeff Martin, 55 of Elm Street, engaged in mutual combat in the form of strikes and blows to the face from a broom causing minor injuries to both. The altercatio­n started over house chores. They were cited with harassment.

Fugitive nabbed

Antoinette B. Vaughn, 24, of Wilmington, was arrested and charged with arrest prior to requisitio­n ( Fugitive from Justice), following a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The incident occurred June 28 in the 300 block of Chambers Road, in New Garden Township. A records check revealed that she was wanted by Wilmington Police on an outstandin­g warrant. She was taken into custody, arraigned, and committed to the Chester County Prison, in lieu of posting $ 10,000 bail, pending extraditio­n proceeding­s.

DUI

Juan M. Zavala- Nunez, 32, of Avondale was arrested and charged with DUI, theft by unlawful taking or dispositio­n, and public drunkennes­s, following the theft of a bicycle from the 400 block of Buena Vista Drive, in New Garden Township. The incident occurred on June 24 at 10: 20 a. m. Police made contact with Zavala- Nunez, in the 200 block of Thompson Road and found him to be intoxicate­d, the report said. The owner of the bicycle advised police that she had followed the suspect, after he stole the bike, and that he relinquish­ed it to her at a nearby business. ZavalaNune­z was taken into custody and submitted to a chemical test of his breath, resulting in a blood alcohol level of 0.173 percent. He was processed and held for arraignmen­t, after which he was committed to the Chester County Prison in lieu of posting $ 5,000 bail.
