EAST WHITELAND >> Immaculata University announced it has entered into an agreement with the Young Men and Women in Charge (YMWIC) Foundation, Inc., that guarantees admission to Immaculata for scholars who complete or exceed the criteria of the YMWIC Program and graduate from high school. To recognize the academic accomplishments of these students, Immaculata will provide, at minimum, a $9,000 Academic Merit Scholarship for qualifying students.

The Guaranteed Admission Program, available for most of Immaculata’s degree programs, and the Merit Scholarship are effective for students entering in fall 2020 or fall 2021. Students must be admitted as full time, first-time students with a GPA of

at least 2.5, combined SAT score of 990, and satisfy other application requirements. The $9,000 Merit Scholarship is renewable for three additional consecutive years of full-time status provided a benchmark GPA is maintained. YMWIC scholars who earn a higher GPA and SAT score in high school may qualify for a higher-based Merit Scholarship.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for YMWIC and Immaculata to partner to provide financial assistance to deserving, academically prepared students,” said Sister Susan Cronin, IHM, Professor of Biology at Immaculata University and Education Consultant for YMWIC Foundation. “This assistance lowers the cost of a college degree for students and their parents and also provides the venue for the YMWIC scholars to share their leadership skills with the Immaculata community.”

With the knowledge that STEM job prospects have grown 79 percent and that Latinos, African-Americans, and women are underrepresented in the STEM fields, YMWIC was created to empower young men and women from historically underrepresented minorities to become leaders in the STEM fields. In the past, Sister Susan Cronin has held summer camps at Immaculata focused on leadership and engineering for young girls and has worked every program year with individual YMWIC chapters to help scholars with research projects. With her leadership, Immaculata faculty and university students also host Science Night Workshops for scholars interested in chemistry and biotechnology topics.

Today’s Immaculata University is a vibrant coeducational community of active and engaged learners. Established in 1920 and guided by the servant leadership tradition of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the University empowers graduates for lifelong success, leadership and service. Immaculata offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs and is home to 23 NCAA athletic teams.
