Unionville boys, girls sweep XC quad-meet

In a cross country meet involving four Ches-Mont League teams, host Unionville went 3-0 in both the boys and girls races on Wednesday to beat Oxford, Kennett and Sun Valley.

Ranked sixth in the state, the Unionville boys were paced by Cole Walker and Ethan McIntyre, who both covered the two-mile course in under 10:06 and finished onetwo, respective­ly. Gavin Maxwell was third (10:10) for Kennett, who went 1-2. Oxford’s Bruce Trimmer (10:13) was fourth to lead Oxford, who went 2-1. Sun Valley went 0-3.

On the girls side, the host Indians, ranked seventh in the state, went 3-0. Senior Marcella Krautzel won the race in a time of 12:44 for Unionville. Taj Lanier (12:50) placed second overall for Oxford, which went 2-1. Sofie Lusvadi (13:34) was ninth to pace Kennett (1-3).

BISHOP SHANAHAN 7, SUN VALLEY 0 >> The Eagles prevailed in three of four doubles matches that went three sets, including a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 marathon at No. 2 doubles for the Shanahan team of Kate McCullough and Elyce Shew. UNIONVILLE 5, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 2 >> The Cougars won two of three singles matches, but the Indians swept all four in doubles to win in Ches-Mont action. Sophie Walker topped Maria Thomas ayt No. 2 single 6-2, 6-2 for Unionville. Kaitlyn Fisher was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles for East. GREAT VALLEY 7, COATESVILL­E 0 >> The Patriots won six of seven in straight sets. The exception was at No. 2 singles, where Ellie Kwak survived a highly competitiv­e 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 10-8 triumph over Stephanie Vivero.

CHURCH FARM 5, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 0 >> Isaiah Harris scored three times to pace the Griffins to a non-league victory. Jose Sotelo and Mamadou Sissoko each added single goals and goaltender Reggie Phifer registered the shutout.

OXFORD 217, PEQUEA VALLEY 241 >> In non-league action, the Hornets cruised to a win at Wyncote Golf Club. Matt Franjesh had the low score with a 2-over-par 38. Brendan Humphrey and Matt Todd chipped in with 44s for Oxford. UNIONVILLE 188, BISHOP SHANAHAN 207 >> The Indians improve to 15-0 with a Ches-Mont victory over the Eagles. The low round of the day came from Jack Cooley with a 2-under-par score of 33. Roy Anderson and Jon Passarello each carded a 36 for Unionville. Gregory Hannah led Shanahan with a 35. CONESTOGA 191, GARNET VALLEY 218 >> The Pioneers had four golfers break 40 en route to a Central League win over the Jags. Morgan Lofland fired a 1-under-par 34 at Waynesboro­ugh Country Club for ‘Stoga. Ben Lee added a 37 for the Pioneers, who finish the regular season at 10-1, 10-3 overall. WEST CHESTER EAST 223, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 232 >> East’s Victoria Kim was the only golfer to break 40 at Penn Oaks Country Club with a 38, and seniors Conor Gallagher and James Palmer contribute­d with a 45 and 46 respective­ly. Charlie Cliggett shot a team low 43 of the Whippets. The Vikings finish the regular season 9-3 in the league and 10–4 overall.

Girls Golf

UNIONVILLE 167, VILLA MARIA 207 >> The Indians move to 13-1 overall with a win over the Hurricanes. Charlotte Scully paced Unionville with am evenpar 35, and senior Emily Gong carded a career-best 45. Elizabeth O’Connell shot a 51 to lead Villa Maria.

Water Polo

HILL SCHOOL 13, MALVERN PREP 8 >> The Friars fell to 5-5 overall with the loss. Jake Caulfield was outstandin­g in goal with 17 saves. Jack Cassidy scored three goals and Gavin Kane and Ryan Cochran had two each for Malvern.

Womens’ Soccer

WEST CHESTER 4, MANSFIELD 0 >> The sixth-ranked Rams blanked the Mountainee­rs to improve to 5-0 in the PSAC (6-0 overall). It was WCU’s fifth shutout in six games. Hannah Zach, Jenny Bail, Olivia Muha and Nicolette Harrison each scored for West Chester.
