Substitute teacher arrested for intoxication
A Lionville Elementary substitute teacher is suspected of being intoxicated after the teacher was observed in the classroom Thursday slurring words.
A spokesman for the Uwchlan Police Department confirmed that a teacher was removed from the building for intoxication.
“We still need to take a look to see what charges will be,” the spokesman said. “We did go out and investigate the matter.”
School administrators contacted law enforcement in response to a substitute teacher who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
Upon notification that the substitute was slurring their speech, Lionville Elementary administrators immediately responded and investigated. Law enforcement was contacted, responded and removed the substitute from the building.
“Our teachers, counselors, staff and administration will always take the security and safety of our students with the utmost care and concern,” said Lionville Elementary Principal Shelda Perry. “We are so grateful to our local law enforcement for their continued partnership and support in ensuring the well-being of our students.”
The substitute had limited student interaction, district officials
said, adding there is no reason to believe nor evidence to suggest that any students
were in danger as a result of the incident.
District officials sent out a letter to every parent in the district Friday notifying them of the situation and how it was handled.
