They are among 14agencies chosen as recipients of a grant presented by the Malvern Federal Charitable Foundation.

PAOLI >> Seven nonprofit organizations from Chester and Montgomery counties and one from Philadelphia, are among 14 agencies chosen as recipients of a grant presented by the Malvern Federal Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of Malvern Bank.

The grants — totaling $105,000 — were presented to organizations in Malvern Bank’s local markets in Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia and New Jersey at a Sept. 26 event at the General Warren Inn, located in East Whiteland, Chester County. The individual grant amounts were not made available by Malvern Bank.

“Our grants are intended to assist these organizations in fulfilling their missions of helping our neighbors,” Anthony C. Weagley, president and CEO of Malvern Bancorp Inc. and Malvern Bank, National Association, said in a press release.

Since its founding in 2008, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $700,000 to organizations in Malvern Bank’s service area “that improve the quality of life,” he added.

The company is committed

to the grants, according to a spokesman, because of Weagley’s belief “in giving back to the communities that we serve.”

Among the area organizations that were recognized are:

• FLITE, Foundation for Learning in Tredyffrin/Easttown, funds programs that provide academic tools and support for Tredyffrin/Easttown students, especially those who face barriers to their educational success.

• Timothy School in Berwyn, is the state’s oldest nonprofit school devoted exclusively to the educational needs of autistic children.

• Woodlynde School in Strafford, serves students with diverse learning styles and empowers them to become strategic learners and self-advocates.

The main focus of the grant program for 2019 was on three areas of service, according to the company. They were: organizations that help families to achieve independence and self-sufficiency; educational programs that provide services to children whose parents are in the low to moderate income brackets; and environmental programs that improve the quality of life for residents.

After the grants were awarded, the nonprofit executives heard a presentation by Laura Fredricks, the founder and CEO of the Ask and author of several books including “Winning Words for Raising Money.” Fredricks shared strategies to help nonprofits and businesses raise money more effectively.
