Stoga’s Kwak, Dodge reach final

The Conestoga duo of Leena Kwak and Olivia Dodge rolled into the championsh­ip match of the District 1 Class 3A doubles tournament over the weekend with three straight-set wins. The secondseed­ed pair will face No. 1 Kanon Ciarrocchi and Lucy Hederick of Radnor in the final on Wednesday.

Kwak and Dodge earned a firstround bye, and then beat Methacton’s Hannah Kim and Katie Chan, 6-0, 6-0; Radnor’s Annie Burton and Bridget Dougherty, 6-4, 6-2; and Unionville’s Saanvi Garg and Faith Ilgner, 6-3, 6-3, in the semifinals.

Garg and Ilgner won three matches to reach the semifinals, all in straight sets.

Women’s Golf

PSAC CHAMPIONSH­IPS >> West Chester University senior Meghan O’Mara won the individual championsh­ip with a score of 79 to cap a three-day effort at Hershey Country Club. Her score was enough to help the Golden Rams finish third overall in the team leaderboar­d, and clinched a sixth individual title of the fall.

Gannon won the team title and Mercyhurst was second, in front of WCU. Golden Ram sophomore Alexandra Lowder was 13th overall, while Angela Masseria was 18th and Conestoga grad Emily Centofante was 22nd.

Men’s Golf

PSAC CHAMPIONSH­IPS >> WCU’s Chris Warner came oh-so-close to becoming the first player in PSAC history to win back to back titles, coming up just short in a three-way playoff Sunday at Hershey Country Club. Warner bogeyed the first playoff hole, while Indiana’s Shaun Fedor and Shepherd’s Owen Elliott parred the hole. Fedor parred the second hole to win the title.

West Chester was second as a team behind Indiana (Pa.).

Freshman Brock Fassnacht shot the low round of any golfer on Sunday with a 72, and finished fifth overall. Sophomore Austin Schreffler was 18th, freshman Sean Rabbitt was 22nd and Davis Clarke was 29th.

Women’s Soccer

WEST CHESTER 3, SHEPHERD 1>> The Golden Rams (9-3, 7-3 PSAC) got two early goals from Downingtow­n East graduate Madison Baxter, and another goal from junior Hannah Zach. WCU goalie Brooke Myers recorded three saves.

Men’s Soccer

WEST CHESTER 1, SHEPHERD 0 >> A penalty kick goal from junior Colin Muller in the 82nd minute was enough for the 23rd-ranked Golden Rams to get a big PSAC Win. WCU goalie Daniel Good, a Downingtow­n East graduate, tallied three saves and his sixth shutout of the season.

Field Hockey

WESTTOWN 3, SHIPLEY 0 >> The Moose (11-1 overall, 7-1 Friends Schools League) got two goals from Abbie Barth and one from Phebe Herlocher in their league win Friday. Goalie Sabrina Schoenborn recorded five saves for the Moose, who will be hosting the Friends’ Schools League tournament semifinals Monday.

Girls Volleyball

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 3, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1 >> The Cougars, who posted scores of 19-25, 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14 Friday, were led by Rachel Wertz (two assists, 14 kills and 13 digs), Brooke Lauletta (one assist, 11 kills, nine digs, one ace, one block) and Jordan Musantry (20 digs, one ace).

Women’s Field Hockey

WEST CHESTER 3, INDIANA UNIVERSITY 0 >> The topranked Golden Rams (14-0, 7-0 PSAC) earned their 10th shutout of the season Saturday, getting goals from Kat Roncoroni, Marre Corver and Bishop Shanahan graduate Caitlin Kelly. WCU goalie Claire Nielsen made a pair of saves.
