Charges filed in road rage shooting
NEW LONDON TOWNSHIP » A 36-year-old Lincoln University man was arrested in connection with a road rage shooting Tuesday after dash cam footage provided troopers with information on the make and model of his vehicle.
Erik Kelly, 36, was charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, possessing instruments of crime, recklessly endangering another person, propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle, criminal mischief and other related summary charges.
According to state police at Avondale, the incident began May 12 at 4:20 p.m. on Oxford Road at
Newark Road in New London Township. Police said a man later identified as Kelly was driving his vehicle on Oxford Road and fired numerous shots at a vehicle in front of him in an apparent road rage incident.
The victim continued in his direction of travel and was able to reach a safe location
in the parking lot of Walmart, located at 710 Commons Drive, Lower Oxford Township. He waited until police arrived.
The victim immediately provided troopers with dash cam footage, which identified the shooter’s vehicle as a red Chevrolet HHR.
Troopers immediately canvassed the area and located the Chevrolet HHR in the Walmart parking lot at 800 Commons Drive in Lower Oxford Township.
The owner was immediately detained and identified as Kelly. A loaded .22 caliber handgun was located on Kelly. Criminal investigators were called in to both scenes. The investigation revealed evidence to arrest Kelly.
Kelly was arraigned and remanded to Chester County Prison, where he will remain until a preliminary hearing at a later date.
