Boyertown gets revenge on Boone

A fast start proved big for Boyertown Saturday.

Big enough to withstand a Daniel Boone rally that threatened, but didn’t overcome, its run total in the Bears’ 8-7 victory.

Six first-inning runs helped stake Boyertown to a 6-3 lead it padded with another pair in the bottom of the third. The Mavriks put up a four-spot in the fourth, but a solid relief pitching effort by Tyler Sharayko helped close the door on Boone and enabled the Bears to answer a 4-2 loss in Thursday’s Berks County Independent League game.

Sharayko came on for starter Tony Xanthopoulos with one out in the fourth, yielding just three hits and one walk over the final 3-2/3. Xanthopoulos was tagged with all Boone’s runs and seven of its 10 hits against four strikeouts.

Boyertown got two RBI from Derrek Basile (triple) and saw other runs driven in by Chase Mercon, Tyler Hoffman and Hunter Seyler. Boone got multiple-hit outings from Matt Stevens (3for-3, triple, double), Teagan Duffie (2-for-3, double, one RBI), Evan Colgrove (2-for-4, one RBI) and Josh Piccaretta (2-for-4, double, one RBI).
