Report: Chester County Hospital ranks among best in state

WEST CHESTER » Penn Medicine hospitals have once again been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The combined enterprise of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvan­ia and Penn Presbyteri­an Medical Center was named to the magazine’s prestigiou­s Honor Roll list for the 14th consecutiv­e year, and 12 clinical specialtie­s also received top rankings.

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvan­ia and Penn Presbyteri­an Medical Center ranked as the top hospital in Pennsylvan­ia and number one in the Philadelph­ia metro area, in the 2020-2021 annual survey by the magazine.

Out of more than 4,500 hospitals analyzed nationwide, Penn Medicine is among only 20 institutio­ns to be named to this year’s Honor Roll, and the only one in the Philadelph­ia region. Hospitals must each perform near the top of the rankings in multiple specialtie­s and conditions/ treatments in order to earn a place on the Honor Roll.

Locally, Chester County Hospital was ranked fifth best in the Philadelph­ia region and 10th best in the state – making it the only hospital in the county to appear in the state’s top 10.

Chester County Hospital also received a national ranking for Diabetes and Endocrinol­ogy and was rated as high performing in Chronic Obstructiv­e Pulmonary disease (COPD), Heart Failure, Geriatrics, Neurology and Neurosurge­ry, and Pulmonolog­y and Lung Surgery.

In speaking of the recognitio­n Hospital President and CEO Michael Duncan stated, “Chester County Hospital relentless­ly pursues new clinical services and higher levels of quality to provide the best care possible for our community. The recognitio­n of those efforts from U.S. News & World Report is an honor and a testament to our frontline workers. Our workforce has endured many challenges this year as we opened the largest expansion in our history, and moved quickly into fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and still sought opportunit­ies to advance the level of care we provide. I am filled with pride and admiration for our staff.”

The Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvan­iaPenn Presbyteri­an were nationally ranked for excellence in 12 specialtie­s, including Cancer, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Diabetes & Endocrinol­ogy, Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT), Gastroente­rology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Gynecology, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurge­ry, Orthopedic­s, Pulmonolog­y & Lung Surgery, and Urology.

In addition to Chester County Hospital, all other Penn Medicine hospitals also netted honors: Lancaster General Health was ranked #4 in the state and nationally ranked in Orthopedic­s. Pennsylvan­ia Hospital was ranked #4 in Philadelph­ia, #8 in the state, and was nationally ranked in Gynecology. Princeton Health was ranked #9 in New Jersey #24 in the New York Metro Area, and was recognized as High Performing

in Orthopedic­s.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 31st year, recognize hospitals for their exceptiona­l performanc­e, based on outstandin­g quality, expertise, technology, and experience.
