When President Chris Fiorentino wants to take a jaunt across the West Chester University campus, he will be able to follow a new path.

WCU plans to create a fountain, and walkway, that will cut diagonally across campus. The walkway will stretch from the northwest corner of South High Street and Rosedale Avenue through university property to University Avenue.

The new fountain and plaza will be near the northwest corner of South High Street and Rosedale Avenue.

Borough Council was expected to give the project go-ahead at Wednesday’s voting session. Work on the fountain might start almost immediately.

The project is one aspect of a comprehensive, multiyear landscape master plan consisting of several phases.

The fountain will be 30 feet in diameter, and it is planned to be about 70-80 feet from the Rosedale Avenue sidewalk and 30-40 feet from the High Street sidewalk.

Fiorentino is excited by the project.

“Thanks to the kindness and generosity of WCU alumnus Roger Ware, and his wife Agnes, the university is fortunate to be able to establish the Ware Family Plaza as part of a larger campus outdoor renovation project,” Fiorentino said. “The walkway and Ware Family Plaza will act as an official landmark for WCU, as well as the borough of West Chester.

“As the University prepares to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2021, this new landmark will be especially meaningful and significant to the campus.”
