Born April 17, 1927 in Hoboken, NJ, the daughter of the late Charles Stukhart and Freda (Elsenhans) Stukhart Simon, she grew up in Cliffside Park, NJ, graduating from Cliffside Park High School. While working in New York City, June went on a blind date with Raymond J. McGlew Jr. This date led to a 51-year marriage in 1949.

June loved adventure and travel. The family enjoyed summer trips to Vermont and Maine and June continued to travel well into her 80's taking trips to Europe with her granddaughters. One of the achievements was the opening of a swimming pool open to all people, when most pools were segregated, in what is now known as the Kennett Area YMCA pool.

After moving to Wilmington, June and her husband were instrumental in starting the Home of Divine Providence, now known as Bayard House, serving as the first house-parents at the home for single pregnant women in the former St. Thomas the Apostle convent.
