Man woman, arrested after trying to buy guns

EAST GOSHEN >> A West Chester man and a Philadelph­ia woman were arrested by police after attempting to purchase firearms from a federal firearms dealer in East Goshen Township.

Both attempted to make the purchase despite being prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

Arrested were Jason Smith, 36, and Sarah Clark, 25.

Police said that on March 12, Smith, and then Clark, attempted to purchase firearms at the gun shop but the purchase was declined by the Pennsylvan­ia Instant Checks System, overseen by the Pennsylvan­ia State Police. Smith was arraigned and bail was set at $1,500 unsecured. His preliminar­y hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on March 31. Clark’s bail was set at $1,500 unsecured. Her preliminar­y hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on April 7.

Oxford RETAIL THEFT

On Sept. 4, 2020 at 1:51p.m., Oxford Police Department arrested 49 year old, Reina Ruth Crigger of Port Deposit, Maryland. Lost prevention employee reported to the police they observed Crigger and a male suspect placing items offered for sale in Crigger’s purse. Crigger was detained and turned over to the police. Crigger was processed and released pending charges. Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call 911.

DRUG CHARGES

On Jan. 22, 2021 at 10:43 pm The Oxford Borough Police; utilizing an automated license plate reader, pulled over Brayan Rojas Perez, 22, of Avondale after being identified as a suspended driver along the 600 block Lincoln Street. Rojas Perez refused to exit the drivers’ seat after several commands to do so and had to be physically removed. Officers subsequent­ly towed the vehicle to obtain a search warrant after detecting an odor of marijuana. A small amount of marijuana and an electronic scale with marijuana residue were recovered. On March 16, 2021, Rojas Perez failed to appear for a preliminar­y hearing. All charges were held after a hearing in absentia.

Kennett Square VEHICLE THEFT

On Nov. 1, 2020 at approximat­ely 5:43 a.m., officers were dispatched for a motor vehicle theft in the 300 block of Marshall Street, Kennett Square Borough. There were multiple

vehicles that were gone through and one which was stolen. Officers were able to lift fingerprin­ts off of the vehicles and residents in the area were able to provide video footage of the incident. A short time after the vehicle was stolen it was located in Wilmington, Del., by New Castle County Police Department, in the possession of three male juveniles. Charges were filed with Chester County Juvenile Probation

VEHICLE BREAK-INS

On Nov. 30, 2020, officers were dispatched for a multiple vehicle break in report in the 700 block of Lafayette Street, Kennett Square Borough. There were a total of seven vehicles broken into and the only thing missing was a bag of clothing from one vehicle. Officers were able to obtain multiple fingerprin­ts from the vehicles. On Feb. 17, 2021 latent print analysis reports were received for the fingerprin­ts submitted which matched two individual­s, one being Josiah Brown, 18, of Wilmington, DE. Charges were filed with District Court and an arrest warrant was issued for Brown.

Parkesburg STOLEN VEHICLE

Police are investigat­ing the theft of a 2017 dark blue GMC Acadia stolen from the 600 blk. of West Second Avenue on March 13, 2021, around 8:20 a.m. The victim reported the vehicle was unlocked, engine running and left it unattended. Witnesses report the vehicle drove off at a high rate of speed. Neighbors have provided police with security camera video from the immediate area. TERRORISTI­C THREATS

Police have charged the Christophe­r A. Smith, 43 of Honey Brook, with terroristi­c threats and related offenses after an incident Feb. 24, 2021 on Washington Avenue. A summons has been issued and the preliminar­y hearing has been scheduled for April 15 in Parkesburg.

Coatesvill­e WARRANT ARREST

On March 5 at 7:34 a.m., officers observed a blue Toyota RAV-4 fail to properly signal a left turn from North Eighth Avenue onto East Chestnut Street. The vehicle parked in the 800 block of East Chestnut Street as a traffic stop was being initiated. The driver, later identified as Donte Crews of Christiana, exited the vehicle and refused to get back in the vehicle. Crews then fled on foot for approximat­ely three blocks, but was apprehende­d by police. Crews had an active felony warrant for possession with intent to deliver. He was transporte­d to the Coatesvill­e Police Station where he was processed and house. Police said Crews is facing additional flight to avoid apprehensi­on charges as well as related traffic offenses.

WARRANT ARREST

On March 2, 2021 at 7:41 a.m., officers observed a silver Volkswagen Tiguan traveling on East Lincoln Highway. The vehicle made an abrupt turn onto South Tenth Avenue and sped toward Oak Street. The vehicle failed to signal the turn from South Tenth Avenue onto Oak Street and a traffic stop was conducted. Contact was made with the driver who was identified as Martin Perez Jr. of Downingtow­n. Perez had an active felony warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. Perez refused to exit the vehicle. A struggle ensued and three officers were able to overcome his resistance and get him out of the vehicle and into custody without further incident. Perez was transporte­d to the Coatesvill­e Police Station where he was processed and house. He faces new charges for resisting arrest and related traffic offenses. He was sent over to Chester County Prison after failing to post bail.

WEST CHESTER

On March 10, 2021 at approximat­ely 10:34 p.m., officers were dispatched to 329 West Washington Street, Waverly Apartments, for the report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers observed a man walking away for the apartment building. Witnesses were heard yelling that the man was involved in the disturbanc­e. After an investigat­ion, Eric Reason, 48, of West Chester was taken into custody for Simple Assault. Reason also had an active criminal warrant from West Chester Police for a prior burglary at the same address. Reason was also found to be in possession of suspected drug and drug parapherna­lia. He was transporte­d to Chester County Prison for arraignmen­t. A preliminar­y hearing is pending.

West Whiteland CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Officers are investigat­ing a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Stirling Court. Sometime between Saturday, March 13, 2021 and Sunday, March 14, 2021, someone reportedly carved a large “X” into the hood of the vehicle.
