D-West boys lax rolls past Oxford

The Downingtow­n West boys’ lacrosse team closed out its ChesMont season with a 20-10 win against Oxford Thursday. Nine different Whippets scored with Michael Straub leading the way with 5 goals and 1 assist. Bret Bergey and Kevin Lundmark each scored 3 goals while the Venzie brothers combined for 5 goals – Luke had 3 goals and two assists while Tom had 2 goals and picked up 16 ground balls. Tyler Rodriguez, Carter Grear, Trent Thomas, Owen Lundmark each added a goal. Ryan Dever added two assists and was named the 2021 Brian Houshower Award winner. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 13, COATESVILL­E 9 >> The Golden Knights were led by Owen Murray (3 goals, 2 assists), Antonio Santangelo (3 goals), Marek Seaman (3 goals), Zach Mankowski (2 goals), Tucker Flynn (won 18 of 26 faceoffs) and Teddy Novak (14 saves). Coatesvill­e’s attack was led by Logan Fleming (2 goals, 1 assist), Owen Ellis (3 goals, 1 assist), Tommy Ortega (1 goal, 3 assists) and Alex Ly (2 goals), while Red Raider goalie Dax Shallis recorded 13 saves.

GREAT VALLEY 10, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 9 >> The Patriots trailed 5-2 at halftime but came back to win, led by Brady Mitchell (4 goals), Michael Corrigan (2 goals), Daniel Siaton (1 goal, 2 assists) and Andy Talone (1 goal, won 13 of 20 faceoffs).

Girls Lacrosse

HAVERFORD 13, KENNETT 12 >> The Blue Demons lost in overtime, but got solid scoring from Megan Ward (4 goals), Makayla Kelly (2 goals), Bridget Wells (2 goals) and Ellie Matthews (2 goals).

Baseball

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 14, SUN VALLEY 5 >> The Golden Knights’ attack was led by winning pitcher Pete Reinheimer (2-for-5, home run, 5 RBIs, 3 runs scored) and Nick Covis (3-for4, double, 3 RBIs). Rustin scored five runs in the first inning, and seven more in the third frame.

Softball COATESVILL­E 5, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 3 >>

In this nine-inning contest, Coatesvill­e’s Ashlynn Sherman’s two-out hit in the seventh inning forced extra innings. She then drove in the go-ahead run with her third hit and third RBI of the day in the ninth inning. Sherman also gained the win in the circle, striking out seven and allowing no earned runs. Emma Friel and Caitlin Reynolds each added three hits for Coatesvill­e. Skye Zolomij had three hits for Henderson. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 13, UNIONVILLE 0 >> Audrey Wright and Ava Zettlemoye­r combined on a five-inning no-hitter, Wright pitching the first four innings. The two hurlers also combined to strike out eight batters. Nicole Lioumis and Morgan DeFreitas each hit home runs, while DeFreitas and Lizzie Kern each had four RBIs. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 17, SUN VALLEY 2 >> The Golden Knights were led by Paige Bentley (4-for-4, home run, double, 6 RBIs), Mallory Hardwick (3-for-3, double, 2 RBIs) and Ali Black (2-for-4, 2 doubles).
