Route 1 Bypass to be resurfaced next week

KENNETT SQUARE >> U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) is among several state highways in Chester and Montgomery counties restricted for resurfacing operations as part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the five-county Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced.

Northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter a lane closure at various locations between Hoffman Mill Road and U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) on Wednesday, June 16, and Thursday, June 17, from 7 PM to 7 AM, and from 7 PM Friday, June 18, to 70 AM Monday, June 21, for saw cutting operations under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County

and Pennsbury Township, Chester County.

U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur due to these mobile operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete

patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

The resurfacing work schedules and locations are:

Sunday, June 13, though Friday, June 18, from 8 PM to 5 AM, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) between the Route 796 Interchange and the Glenn Willow Road Overpass in Penn and London Grove townships for milling and paving operations;

Sunday, June 13, through Friday, June 18, from 8 PM to 5 AM, a lane closure is scheduled on Pottstown Pike/North High Street between Goshen Road and Boot Road in West Whiteland and West Goshen townships for milling and paving operations; and

Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, from 8 AM to 4 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 113 (Pike Springs Road) at the Coldstream Road intersection in East Pikeland Township for milling and paving operations.
