Four firefighters hurt responding to alarm in Sadsbury
SADSBURY » Four Chester County firefighters were injured after the fire truck they were in was involved in an accident, causing it to overturn.
The firefighters, whose names were not released, where transported to Paoli Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
On Friday afternoon, Dec. 3, Sadsburyville Fire Co. was dispatched to the unit block of Washington Lane in Sadsbury Township for a report of an electrical fire inside a house. The fire engine was traveling south on Old Wilmington Road in the direction of the initial incident. The fire engine then became involved in a vehicle accident.
Within minutes, additional responders arrived on the scene and confirmed that fire truck had rolled over onto its roof. The four firefighters inside the fire truck were wearing seat belts.
Additional resources from the Keystone Valley Fire Department, Westwood Fire Co. ambulance and TowerDIRECT EMS were dispatched to assist. Firefighters were able to self-extricate from the vehicle and were tended to by EMS responders on the scene.
“It is still too early to determine the exact cause of the accident, as circumstances leading up to the crash are still under investigation,” said Adam Grossman, Sadsburyville Fire Co. chief. “Our focus right now is on the well-being and safety of our firefighters, and I am pleased to report that all have been discharged from the hospital and are now home with their families.”
Modena Fire Co. provided coverage at the Sadsburyville station for the duration of the call. Keystone Valley Fire Department’s crews assisted with cleanup and mitigation of the accident scene, and Christiana Fire Co. and the Union Fire
Co. of Oxford Ambulance provided crews to cover the western portion of Chester County. A fire truck from the Westwood Fire Co. of Coatesville has already been loaned to the Sadsburyville Fire Co.
Investigators will continue determine the cause of the investigation. Officials will monitor the welfare of the firefighters who were involved in the accident.
