Police capture man wanted for dirt bike thefts

WESTTOWN » Teamwork between the WesttownEa­st Goshen Regional Police Department and other police department­s was responsibl­e for the capture and arrest of a man wanted for stealing dirt bikes and ATVs from property owners in Chester County.

On April 12, at around 2 a.m., the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department received informatio­n about a stolen truck that was traveling along Wilmington Pike into Westtown Township. Patrol officers were aware of a recent trend involving stolen trucks being used to steal dirt bikes and ATVs and immediatel­y began to patrol nearby neighborho­ods. At around 2:27 a.m., patrol officers were made aware that the stolen truck was now heading south on Wilmington Pike and now the bed of the truck contained an ATV and dirt bike.

Area police department­s including those in Delaware County, Pennsylvan­ia were made aware of the possible recent theft and last known direction of travel. Several minutes later, police agencies from around Delaware County were successful­ly able to stop the vehicle. It was later confirmed that the ATV in the bed of the truck was stolen from a resident’s rear yard in Westtown Township, Pennsylvan­ia. Subsequent­ly, Jose Raul Colon, 19, from Camden, New Jersey, was arrested for theft of motor vehicle and related offenses.

Oxford THEFT OF TIRES

On April 15, 2022 the Oxford Police Department was dispatched to the Oxford Mobil, 281 South Third Street, for a reported theft. Police said the thief had fled the scene prior to police arrival. A video of the incident was released. On April 16, 2022 a tip from a resident was received that stated the vehicle used in the theft was parked in a neighborho­od in Lower Oxford Township. Officers arrived and located the vehicle and the suspect, Luis Ortega, 31, of Harrisburg, sitting inside. Ortega was arrested on multiple bench warrants and was transporte­d to Chester County Prison. Charges will be filed for Theft and Receiving Stolen Property.

FOURTH DUI

On October 21, 2021 police were dispatched to the 500 block of Lincoln Street for a single vehicle accident. The vehicle operator, Cesar Jimenez-Juarez, 23, of Oxford, stated that his vehicle had left the roadway and struck a business sign. After an investigat­ion it was determined that Jimenez-Juarez was intoxicate­d when the accident occurred. After officers received blood alcohol results, charges were filed for DUI and Reckless Driving.

West Whiteland RETAIL THEFT

The West Whiteland Township Police Department is investigat­ing an $11,000 theft from the Ulta store on April 10,2022. Four females, using Under Armour mesh bags, removed merchandis­e from the store. Kennett Square HARASSMENT

Donald Sheets, 72, was arrested and charged with simple assault and harassment, following an altercatio­n, during which he allegedly struck a female subject in the side of the head, three times, leaving a red mark on her face. The incident occurred on April 7, 2022, at 4:54 p.m., in the 200 Block of Meredith Street, Kennett Square Borough. Donald Sheets was transporte­d to Central Booking for arraignmen­t.

SIMPLE ASSAULT

On Monday March 28 at 12:18 p.m., Kennett High School faculty requested police officers to view a video of an assault that occurred at 11:55 a.m. In the video one male juvenile is seen closed hand striking another male juvenile in the face four times. A police officer spoke with both parties involved in the altercatio­n and was advised that the victim had been talking badly about the aggressor and his girlfriend, which is why the fight was initiated. Charges of Simple Assault and Disorderly Conduct were filed with Chester County Juvenile Probation on April 11, 2022.

ASSAULT

A male juvenile was charged with Simple Assault, Harassment and related charges, following an altercatio­n, during which he allegedly was body shaming, teasing and initiated a physical altercatio­n with a female juvenile. The incident occurred on

March 2, 2022 at approximat­ely 3:29 p.m., in the 100 Block of South Union Street, Kennett Square Borough. Charges were filed with Chester County Juvenile Probation on March 22, 2022.

VAPING AT SCHOOL

On Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11 a.m., Kennett High School faculty requested the assistance of police with searching two juvenile females because a faculty member believed she smelled an odor of marijuana coming from one of the juveniles as they walked passed. Two THC vapor cartridges, three nicotine vapor pens and a vapor pen used to smoke the THC cartridges were found inside one of the juvenile female’s clutch purse. Charges were filed with Chester County Juvenile Probation on April 11, 2022.

DRUG CHARGES

William Stinnette, 33, of Avondale, was arrested and charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), after he was found to be in possession of controlled substances, marijuana and related drug parapherna­lia, following a routine patrol check of Anson B. Nixon Park. Stinnette was observed in his vehicle, with the engine running and lights on, after park hours. Upon approachin­g the vehicle, Officers detected a strong odor of burn marijuana and observed a lit marijuana cigarette in his hand. A consent search of the vehicle yielded controlled substances and drug parapherna­lia. Charges were filed.

Westtown-East Goshen THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE

On March 31, 2022, at approximat­ely 4:58 p.m., a business owner in the 1000 block of Wilmington Pike, Westtown Township, observed a male actively stealing a vehicle from a business parking lot. The business owner followed the stolen vehicle into West Whiteland township where the West Whiteland Township Police Department was able to conduct a traffic stop. After the traffic stop was initiated, it was confirmed that the vehicle was stolen from a business in Westtown Township. As a result, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department responded to the traffic stop and arrested Keith J. Foote from West Chester, Pennsylvan­ia for Theft of a motor vehicle and related offenses.

State police, Avondale VEHICLE BREAK-INS

Several cars were illegally entered while parked at a park on Firehouse Drive in East Marlboroug­h Township on April 2 at 4 p.m. Two of the cars were unlocked and a third had a smashed rear passenger window. The thieves took purses.
