Unionville boys tennis squad advances to district team semifinals

The Unionville High School boys’ tennis team defeated Garnet Valley, 5-0, in the District 1 3A team tournament quarterfin­als Tuesday. The No. 2 seed Longhorns won all five matches in straight sets - Andrew Ou, Andrew Poprik and Matt Miller at singles, and the doubles pairs of Matt Farrell/Jack Barrickman and Ryan Megill/Nate Butler. Thursday, the Longhorns will face No. 2 seed Conestoga in the District 1 3A team semifinal.

Boys’ lacrosse

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 8, KENNETT 7 » The Golden Knights were led by Marek Seaman (4 goals, 2 assists), Jake Jackson (3 goals) and Billy Carney (10 saves). For the Blue Demons, Bo Freebery had 4 goals, Jake Freebery 3 assists and Eric Hrabal 11 saves. CONESTOGA 11, LOWER MERION 4 » The Pioneers led 6-1 after the first quarter. The Hornets’ offensive attack was led by Danny Wyatt (2 runs, 3 RBIs, triple), Connor Reilly (2 runs, 2-for-3, triple) and Owen Rector (2-for-3, 2 RBIs). WESTTOWN SCHOOL 6, MOORESTOWN FRIENDS 1 » Westtown pitcher Jack Ingino allowed only 2 hits and a walk in seven innings, striking out 12. Leading the offense for Westtown (7-6, 7-2) was Liam Sayer (home run) and Taj Donald (2 hits, 4 RBIs).

The Golden Rams (15-1) reach the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament for the 18th straight year with this quarterfin­al victory. Hannah Stanislawc­zyk and Keri Barnett each scored five goals, including Stanislawc­zyk’s 100th-career tally, for fourth-ranked West Chester. The Golden Rams will face Seton Hill Friday in the PSAC semifinal. West Chester got stellar goalkeepin­g from firstteam All-PSAC honoree Jessica Gorr (a Bishop Shanahan alum), who made eight of her 12 saves on the day in the first half. Senior Lindsay Monigle finished with four goals and six points.
