VALLEY FORGE » Bikers, get ready. The public is invited to partake in the 9th annual Great Valley Forge Bike To Work Day on May 20.

Participants can join elected officials at either Chester County or Montgomery County locations at 8:15 a.m. to depart for a bike ride to Valley Forge National Historical Park at the student pavilion, 1400 N. Outer Line Drive, King of Prussia.

For those living in Montgomery County, the ride will begin at 8:15 a.m. May 20 from Norristown Transportation Center for a five-mile ride along the Schuylkill

River Trail northbound to Valley Forge.

For Chester County residents, bikers will depart from Taylor Alley lot in Phoenixville for an approximately seven-mile ride along the Schuylkill River

Trail southbound to Valley Forge.

The Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association organizes the event, which advocates for a more sustainable and equitable transportation option via bicycling.

“Whether you are back working at the worksite or continue to work from home, we hope you will join

us to help promote and encourage biking within our region,” said Chester County Commissioner Michelle Kichline.

“Our trail network is a critical lifeline to providing access to all,” Kichline said on Wednesday. “Our counties continue to invest in connections that will improve mobility for our region and provide a better

quality of life for everyone.”

Kichline will be leading the bike procession from Phoenixville. Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence will lead the ride from the Norristown Transportation Center.

“We’d love to have lots of folks from Chester County ride so this year we can beat Montco in this fun race,” Kichline said.

Additional elected officials slated to ride to Valley Forge during the two county rides include state Representative Joe Webster and Montgomery County Commissioner, Chair, Valerie Arkoosh.

Upon arrival at Valley Forge, there will be a press event at 9:15 a.m. and keynote speakers including Chester County Commissioner

Marian Moskowitz and Molly Duffy, executive director of the Valley Forge Park Alliance.

“May is National Bike Month,” said Kichline. “We encourage you to give it a try whether you’re riding for fun, fitness, or with family, or taking essential trips.”
