Quick action saves house from fire
EAST BRANDYWINE » Quick response by firefighters prevented a house from catching fire after a car had caught fire in a garage in East Brandywine Township Saturday night.
Several fire departments, including the East Brandywine Fire Company, were dispatched to a residence on Blakely Road for a reported house fire. As firefighters were responding they were told that a vehicle was on fire inside an attached garage and that everyone was out of the home.
Police Officers from East Brandywine Police along with the Deputy Fire Chief from Thorndale Fire Company arrived on location and quickly realized that the fire had not spread to the house yet. They were able to quickly push the antique car — a vintage Corvette — out of the garage to avoid the house from catching on fire.
Firefighters from East Brandywine arrived on scene and had to use hand tools and a battery operated spreader to open up the back end of the car to expose the area that was on fire and extinguish it.
The actions of the police officers from East Brandywine and the Deputy Fire Chief from Thorndale helped make sure that the house did not catch fire, officials said. Seventeen firefighters from East Brandywine Fire Com
pany were on scene and had the incident under control quickly. Due to the
fire being contained to just the vehicle the rest of the companies that had been dispatched were sent home before arriving on scene. No one was injured, but the car sustained extensive damages, officials said.
