One person hurt in apartment fire
A man was transported to a local hospital after suffering minor burns from an apartment fire in West Whiteland around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The fire was reported in an apartment at the corner of Bartlett and Crest avenues just a few doors down from West Whiteland Fire Company. Firefighters from West Whiteland and Goshen arrived quickly and encountered heavy fire conditions in the front and rear of the property with reports of possibly one male and a dog trapped in a second-floor apartment.
Firefighters stretched multiple hand lines while simultaneously searching for any trapped occupants and also working on the roof to open it up utilizing chainsaws and axes. Luckily the male and dog who were reported possibly trapped were found outside and safe.
Firefighters from West Whiteland, Goshen, Lionville, East Brandywine and First West Chester were on location along with West Whiteland Police and Uwchlan Ambulance and Good Fellowship Ambulance. The fire was placed under control at 11:01 a.m. with crews working on extensive overhaul of the apartment.
The Red Cross was also notified for the other residents of the apartment. The fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office.
