Karen Tipka of Newtown Square passed away at the age of 75 on January 10, 2022. She was born on August 13, 1946 in Wilmington, DE to James S. and Catherine (O’Connor) Tipka.

Karen graduated from Villa Marie Academy and was a graduate of Immaculate College with a degree in English Compositio­n. She taught at Tredyffrin/ Easttown School District. After teaching for several years, she returned to school to study nursing at Thomas Jefferson University. After receiving her BSN in nursing along with a Master equivalenc­y in teaching, Karen worked in labor and delivery in several area hospitals including Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Karen was very bright and outgoing. She enjoyed traveling, reading, journaling, gardening and sewing. She loved cats and had several during her lifetime. She was a communion minister and lector at St. Maximillia­n Parrish in Westtown. She also enjoyed attending services at the Daylesford Abbey in Paoli.

She was predecease­d in death by her parents, James S. Tipka and Catherine O’Connor Tipka, her Brother James Tipka and her brother David Tipka. She is survived by her nephews, Peter Tipka and Mark Tipka, and her nieces, Dawn Tipka, Adrienne Driscoll and Jennifer Tipka. She is, also, survived by her great nieces, Erin Driscoll, Skylar Driscoll and Grace Sykes.

A mass will be held on May 18, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Daylesford Abbey Chapel, 220 South Valley Road, Paoli, PA 19301. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Daylesford Abbey.
