MARRIOTT HOTEL REOPENS
COATESVILLE » With the reopening of the Marriott hotel, visitors now have a new place in the city to rest their heads. Until the reopening, overnight guests have recently had to drive several miles to stay in a motel or hotel.
Under new management, private equity investment firm Recap PA Holdings, has reopened the four-story 125room Courtyard by Marriott in Coatesville, at 600 Manor Road.
On Thursday, about 50 wellwishers, dignitaries, staff and stakeholders celebrated the opening at a ribbon cutting.
Locally based principals Sanjeev Verma and Ramnik Chopra will operate the Marriot franchise managed by Waterford Hotel Group.
The hotel that will employ about 30 workers first opened in May of 2012 and closed due to the pandemic in June of 2020.
Chopra said from a packed conference room during the ribbon cutting ceremony that he and his partner Verma have opened many businesses
but “have never felt so welcome” as they do in Coatesville where there is a “whole different feel.”
Verma said he was getting goosebumps.
The lobby welcomes guests with vivid contrasting colors and is a place to meet, relax and work informally. The hotel offers The Bistro which serves breakfast and Starbucks coffee in the morning and dinners, beer and wine during the evenings. The Market is a 24/7 shop for snacks, beverages and sundries.
An indoor swimming pool, with a whirlpool spa, fitness center, guest laundry and business center is located onsite. The hotel also offers 1,100 square feet of meeting space, which holds up to 60 people. There is a firepit and back patio overlooking the river.
Michael Heaton, president of Waterford Hotel Group is thrilled.
“This is an exciting time for our industry as our industry is building back and we have a wonderful team that will make a great addition to Coatesville,” he said.
State Rep. Dan Williams, D-74th of Sadsbury, was pleased with the collaborative effort that led to the reopening. He noted that many significant memories will be made at the Marriot during weddings and other celebrations.
Sonia Huntzinger, executive director and economic development administrator of Coatesville 2nd Century Alliance, said the hotel will add much to the county’s only city.
“After such a long hiatus due to the pandemic and other factors, we are beyond thrilled to see the hotel open again and serving the Coatesville community and its visitors,” she said. “The new owners and staff have been ideal to work with and are clearly committed to being a part of the city’s bright future.”
Chair of the Chester County Board of Commissioners Marian Moskowitz talked about the ongoing revitalization of Coatesville and said that the community is very special and a place where so many great things are happening.
Commissioner Josh Maxwell talked about one of his first jobs working in a hotel.
“I know how hard it is to run a hotel,” Maxwell said. “The work you are going to do is going to make Coatesville a better place.”
Commissioner Michelle Kichline said that having a hotel in Coatesville is crucial and the community needs a safe, beautiful place to stay.
Jack Burkholder, vice chair of the Coatesville Redevelopment Authority, said everyone is waiting for something to happen and something is going to happen in Coatesville. He favors Marriott. “We ae very glad it remained a Marriot, we like the Marriot name,” he said.
