Axe throwing business opens in Coatesville

COATESVILLE >> Now is your chance to experience that satisfying thunk of sticking an axe into a bullseye, while team building with coworkers, on a date night, or mixing with family and friends.

While renovations are underway, Splitting Edge Axe Throwing of Coatesville, at 204 E. Lincoln Highway recently opened for those looking to chuck an axe. There is a similar location run by the same partners in Malvern and Pottstown.

As many as 12 people in each lane, looking to have a fun night out in Coatesville, will be accompanied by a coach who will guide everyone through the experience, coordinate games and keep score.

Splitting Edge is partnered by Matt Bartnicki, Michael Majewski Jr., Daniel Glennon and Steven Everett. Michael’s father Michael Sr. is helping renovate part of the former Coatesville Record Building that was little more than an empty cavity with no plumbing or electricity.

The building will feature seven lanes with original brick walls, rubber lanes, and turf floors to make the play seem like it is outside.

Bartnicki said that teams will battle each other.

“People come out of their shells like they never have before,” he said. “It’s a fun and different type of experience.

“Everyone has gone bowling, now it’s axe throwing’s turn.”

The coach will make sure everyone is safe.

“It wouldn’t be a business if people were getting hurt,” Bartnicki said.

Majewski Jr. said that Bartnicki and the coaches can teach someone how to throw an axe in a few minutes.

“Matt is the axe master in Chester County,” Majewski Jr. said. “Matt taught me how to throw an axe the right way.”

Bartnicki enjoys teaching and seeing someone learn.

“It’s very empowering when you get that first bullseye,” he said. “While taking the axe out of the board all you want to do is do it again.”

Majewski Jr. added several vintage chainsaws as decorations. He also used pallets, and portions of the same tree to make countertops and to build the VIP Loft on the second floor.

“I love to recycle,” he said, with a smile.

The newly opened Record Kitchen + Bar next door will serve food and drink through a server. There are tables, counters and chairs to sit down and eat and drink while watching play. Alcohol is served, while the business is not BYOB.
