Linda Marie Newlin
Linda Marie Newlin, 80, of Downingtown PA, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on February 4th.
She was born on February 25, 1942 to parents Aurthur and Emily Billman and grew up in Chester Springs PA. She graduated from Downingtown High School, class of 1960. In 1957, Linda and Thomas Willliam Newlin met in high school. They have spent 63+ wonderful years together in marriage. Their progeny include 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren (with 2 more to arrive soon).
Linda lived a life of service, being involved in leadership of church youth group, 4-H, DHS Music Parents, Hopewell UMC Passion Play, Lyndell Grange #1179 (first place, state pie-baking contest - pumpkin, of course), Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts (our favorite part being when she was the cookie chair), the Women’s Club of Downingtown (winning first place in the Philadelphia Flower Show in the miniatures division), and even ran weekly local Texas Hold’em games.
Linda had a beautiful spirit (being adored by every child, animal, and sister-in-law instantaneously), loved spending time at the beach, and enjoyed reading (owning every tomb penned by Steven King, his pseudonyms, and his collaborations). She loved cross stitch, latch-hook, knitting, and sewing (as particularly evidenced by the matching burgundy vest outfits for Easter 1972). She exemplified fairness, kindness, good taste, and style. In addition, I am the favorite.
A Memorial Service will be held at Downingtown United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 8: greet the family at 5:00, service at 6:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia), an organization that helped bring her first greatgrandchild safely into the world.
