West Chester women shine again at PSAC Championsh­ips

Two meet records and five more first-place ribbons highlighte­d the Golden Rams’ Thursday evening as West Chester University widened its’ lead after the second day of competitio­n at the PSAC Women’s Swimming Championsh­ips from the Graham Aquatics Center in York.

The Golden Rams have amassed 790 points midway through the meet. Indiana (Pa.) is second with 461 while Bloomsburg is third with 408.

The 200-yard freestyle relay consisting of Mikayla Niness, Sam Trumble, Isabella Kil and McKenzie Hemingway set a PSAC meet record finishing in 1 minute, 33.61 seconds to top the old record, also held by West Chester, by just .02 hundredths of a second.

Sophia Gerhart defended her title in the 400 individual medley with a personal-best time of 4:23.79. Freshman Lenya Ryan placed third in a personalbe­st time as well of 4:31.44. Madelyn Koehle put up a personal best in the ‘B’ Final of the 400 IM. She was 11th overall with a time of 4:39.10.

Ann Carozza defended her title in the 100 butterfly with a meet record. It marked the third time she has won the conference title in the 100 fly. She picked up the 10th individual conference crown of her illustriou­s career as a result. It was her second individual win of this PSAC Championsh­ip meet following her win in the 50 free on Wednesday. Kil, seeded sixth, improved two spots to finish fourth.

The 400 medley relay capped Day 2 at the championsh­ips with a first-place finish in 3:43.28. Lila DiCarlo,

Hemingway, Carozza and Niness made up that foursome.

The third day gets under way Friday at 10 a.m. with prelims in the 500 free, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststro­ke and 200 fly. The finals that evening will take place in those three events plus the 200 medley relay.

WCU WIDENS LEAD AT PSAC

CHAMPIONSH­IPS >> Dominance in the 400-yard individual medley highlights Day 2 as West Chester widened its lead after the second day of competitio­n at the PSAC Men’s Swimming Championsh­ips. The Golden Rams concluded Day 2 with 459.5 points. Gannon is second with 282.5 while Clarion is third with 239.

The 200 freestyle relay consisting of Devin Metzger, Logan Brockway,

Dalton Fink and Nolan Benner took first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1: 20.43. West Chester claimed four of the top six spots in the 400 IM, including first and second place. Kolos Nagy picked up his first PSAC crown with a winning time of 3:56.58. That time edged teammate Ben Desclous, who was second last winter. He entered the final eighth, but turned in his first sub-4 minute 400 IM with a time of 3:59.96. He was third in the 200 IM on Wednesday. Paul Demesy was fifth in the 400 IM, and Brockway sixth.
