West Chester upends Millersvil­le in 2OT

In a game which was billed as a clash between two of the top teams in the PSAC East, with West Chester (20-7, 15-6) and Millersvil­le (17-10, 14-7) going toeto-toe for the right to get in the driver’s seat for a toptwo seed in the upcoming PSAC Tournament. The contest lived up to its billing and then some, going to double overtime before West Chester, led by seven overtime points by Dame Wall and another five from Elijah Allen in the second OT, pulled away for a 96-91 PSAC East triumph.

The win, which marked the Golden Rams second OT triumph of the year, also marked the third game in a row in which West Chester won either in the final seconds of regulation or in OT, as the Golden Rams improved to 20-7 overall and 15-6 in league play. This victory also marks the first double-overtime win for the Golden Rams since the 2015-16 season when West Chester outlasted Wilmington to win by a 103-92 final. It is the first conference win in double-OT since a 77-76 win over East Stroudsbur­g in the 1979-80 season.

College Women’s Basketball

WEST CHESTER 62, MILLERSVIL­LE

45 >> The West Chester women’s basketball team (20-7, 17-4) never trailed and went wire to wire for their 13th straight PSAC win on Wednesday, moving past Millersvil­le (16-11, 11-10), 62-45. Record-setting point guard Leah Johnson added to her single season assist total with five assists and 20 points to spark the Golden Rams in the win. Johnson set the WCU women’s single season assist record on Saturday against Lock Haven and now is adding to that mark with 185 total assists so far in 2022-23. Emily McAteer also starred in the victory and nearly had another double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Rams. Anna McTamney also contribute­d with 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

MARYMOUNT 66, IMMACULATA 35 >>

The Immaculata women’s basketball team fell in their Atlantic East Conference semifinal to No. 1 Marymount on Wednesday evening 66-35. In the second quarter, both teams continued to play tough defensivel­y. Immaculata was unable to get establishe­d on offense, and Marymount carried a 22-10 lead into the halftime break. Marymount quickly increased their lead in the second half, and lead by 20 at the end of the third quarter.
