Edwin B. Carpenter, Capt. USNR, 94, formerly of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. He was the husband of Mary W. Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter was born on February 15, 1929. He was the son of W. Gordon and Mary Park Bicking Carpenter. His brother Gordon died in 1991. Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Downingtow­n High School Class of 1947. He was also a graduate of Pennsylvan­ia State University in 1951 where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and during his senior year, was President. After naval service during the Korean War, aboard the USS Epping Forest (LSD-4), he graduated from The University of Pennsylvan­ia Law School in 1957. His naval reserve responsibi­lities included Commander Naval Reserve Groups in Philadelph­ia, PA and Charlotte, NC. Mr. Carpenter was employed by the Westinghou­se Electric Corp where he held various positions in Industrial Relations, including the startup of a new plant in Charlotte, NC. He was also with E. R. Squibb Corp. as Director of Human Resources for the U.S. Company. He was with Basco and Better Baked Foods as V.P. of Human Resources. Before retiring, he was selfemploy­ed as a consultant for labor and employee relations.

Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife Mary; son Edwin B. Carpenter, Jr., and his wife Jill, daughters Rebecca Carpenter and MaryBeth Johnson, and her husband Kurt; three granddaugh­ters Sarah, Emily and Rachel Johnson; stepson Eric L. Brammer and his wife Kathy, grandson Kyle L. Brammer, and sister-in-law Janet Carpenter.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 2 PM at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E Lancaster Avenue, Downingtow­n, PA 19335.
