Susquehanna University Choir to perform free concert on March 26

PHOENIXVILLE >> St. John’s Lutheran Church, 355 St. John’s Circle, presents the Susquehanna University Choir and Chamber Singers in concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 26.

The 58-member ensemble, conducted by Amy Voorhees, will present a varied program representing a diversity of composers and cultures.

The University Choir was the only collegiate ensemble from Pennsylvania and one of only four ensembles selected from the state selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Region Conference held in Boston in February 2022. This biennial conference draws choral directors from 11 states across the Northeast.

Ensembles were selected through a blind audition process by ACDA for consideration and invitation to perform at the conference. Ensembles were judged on technique, musicality and repertoire, including the diversity of the composers or arrangers presented.

“This is one of the highest honors a choir can attain and we will gladly carry the torch for Susquehanna to share our gifts with the ACDA choral community,” said Voorhees, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Susquehanna. “Our student musicians overcame many challenges related to the pandemic in order for us to continue making music together. It is their commitment and willingness to work hard every day that has been critical to our success as an ensemble.”

There is no admission charge but a free-will offering will be received to help defray the cost of the concert.
