Shanahan girls lacrosse team opens district tourney with big win

The Bishop Shanahan High School girls’ lacrosse team rolled to a 19-1 win against Dock Mennonite in the opening round of the PIAA District 1 2A tournament Wednesday. The No. 5 seed Eagles’ scoring was led by Caitlyn Hubiak, who tallied five goals, including her 100th career goal. Teammates Silvia Baptista and Annabelle Wiedel chipped in with four goals and three goals, respective­ly. Sam D’Addezio won seven draw controls. Bishop Shanahan will play No. 4 seed Strath Haven Tuesday in the second round of the district tournament.

BRANDYWINE VALLEY SENIOR SOFTBALL >> Al Baldwin’s two-run double in the eighth inning capped a three-run comeback as Goshen Beverage swallowed up AmPro Screen Printing, 1110, in a Brandywine Valley Senior Softball Associatio­n game Wednesday at Copeland School Park. Rob Marro was 3-for-3 with a triple and a home run as the winners took sole possession of second place. In another Brandywine Valley game, Boss Automotive defeated Carlson’s Auto Body, 19-10. Brad Scheirer paced the first-place Boss offense with three hits at Thornbury Park, including a three-run home run, to help secure the win for veteran pitcher Bob Shemonsky.

DRAGONS 1 >> Englunds opened their title defense with a win at Flagg Field. Seven Clothiers had multiple hit games, led by Chris Cowell who had three hits. Mike Douglas had two doubles, Zach Klein and Bobby Harper each drove in three runs, and Kyle Guers and Brady Frankland held the Dragons to three hits in the victory.
