Body Align Studio offers Gyrotonic Exercise Method
Following two total hip replacements, former professional ballerina Deborah “Deb” Zdobinski discovered firsthand how Gyrotonic exercise, practiced in over 80 countries, has gained its faithful following. She’s one of them.
The Gyrotonic method not only helped the Wallingford, Delaware County, resident regain full range of motion, balance and flexibility but has helped her stay as fit as she was decades earlier.
Zdobinski believes in the Gyrotonic method so deeply that she opened her own studio to share the method with others.
“It’s exciting to introduce a totally new exercise modality to the local community,” Zdobinski said.
The licensed Gyrotonic trainer is the founder and sole owner of Body Align Studio, the first fitness establishment to offer the Gyrotonic Exercise Method in Delaware County and its surrounding area.
“I began practicing the Gyrotonic method in the early 1990s,” Zdobinski said. “It kept me sane in the hyper-competitive NYC corporate world.”
After dancing internationally, Zdobinski, a Pittsburgh native who performed in leading roles with the San Francisco Ballet and as an international guest artist, followed up with an over 25-year career as a corporate executive on Madison Avenue.
In 2019, she left advertising, became a licensed Gyrotonic trainer and began teaching in New York City. Then in March 2020, New
York was locked down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In July 2020, after 40 years of living in NYC, Zdobinski decided to move to Wallingford to live with her sister, Diane Holstein. In May 2021, Zdobinski opened Body Align Studio on the second floor of The Hometown Wellness Chiropractic Center, 120 E. State St.
Zdobinski‘s unique blend of physical awareness and agility as a ballet dancer combined with her communication skills from the advertising world enable her to provide highly personalized coaching in a thoughtful, safe and insightful way.
The Gyrotonic Method works on the central nervous system, stimulating and opening the spine, which in turn affects all other functions in the body.
The circular motions and different spiraling actions of the exercises unravel and unlock tension and stiffness. Muscles respond to an increase in circulation, in turn allowing for increased
mobility in the joints. Specially crafted sequences create balance, agility, strength and flexibility.
Gyrotonic exercise can be done by anyone at any age or level from total beginners, to experienced fitness buffs, to accomplished athletes, to seniors and those recovering from injury or living with a disability.
Since opening her studio, Zdobinski has worked with people recovering from hip replacement, stroke and spinal stenosis.
“I’m so grateful for the incredible support and encouragement I’ve received from Dr. Steven Amoia and everyone at Hometown Wellness and Chiropractic Center, as well as my family, friends and the Delaware County community,” she said.
