Red Cross, Kennett Library partner for day of activities March 4

KENNETT SQUARE >> To help commemorat­e Red Cross Month, the American Red Cross Southeaste­rn Pennsylvan­ia Region is partnering with Kennett Library’s health literacy initiative, Live Better, for a day of free educationa­l and lifesaving activities on Monday, March 4 from 1-6 p.m. All activities will take place at Kennett Library, 320 E. The event kicks off with a Red Cross blood drive from 1-6 p.m. Donors are asked to schedule a blood donation appointmen­t in advance by visiting RedCrossBl­ood.org and entering sponsor code KLIB. Walk-in donations may be accepted as time and space allow.

For adults and teens, the Red Cross will present Be Red Cross Ready workshops at 1:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. and will offer HandsOnly CPR training at 2:30 p.m. Be Red Cross Ready helps take the stress out of disaster preparatio­n. Participan­ts will learn tips for preparing their families — including older adults, children and pets — for local disasters. Facilitato­rs will also share home fire and flooding preparedne­ss tips. During Hands-Only CPR, participan­ts will learn 8 simple steps they can use to help someone who is experienci­ng cardiac arrest.

For children, the Red Cross will offer Prepare with Pedro (ideal for grades K-2) at 3:30 p.m. and The Pillowcase Project (ideal for grades 3-5) at 4:30 p.m. Prepare with Pedro is a 30-minute preparedne­ss education program that teaches young students how to be prepared and take action for local disasters, including home fires. The Pillowcase Project is a 45-minute preparedne­ss education program that teaches elementary students about personal and family preparedne­ss and safety skills, local disasters and basic coping skills. Children must be accompanie­d by an adult.

In addition to the scheduled programs, participan­ts are welcome to stop by the Red Cross volunteer recruitmen­t table throughout the event to learn about the many volunteer opportunit­ies the Red Cross has available.
