Fatal shooting in Coatesvill­e investigat­ed

It is the third homicide of the year in the county; second in Coatesvill­e

Chester County police are asking for the public’s help in developing informatio­n about a fatal shooting here that occurred in broad daylight and left one man dead in the street.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon, authoritie­s stated that on Wednesday, Coatesvill­e officers responded to a report of a subject shot on Oak Street on the city’s west side.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 28-year-old man, later identified as Drevon M. Echols, dead in the roadway from apparent gunshot wounds.

Shortly thereafter, a second call was received for an additional gunshot victim in the area of 1st Avenue and Martin Luther King Blvd. The second individual, identified as Nicholas M. Florian of Valley, was located on 1st Avenue being treated by a private transport ambulance. No charges in the case have been filed. Florian was transporte­d to Paoli Hospital by the responding ambulance from the Westwood Fire Company. Florian was connected to the original shooting location on Oak Street, police said.

The investigat­ion is continuing with assistance from the Chester County Detectives, city police, and the District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with informatio­n should contact the Coatesvill­e Police Department at 610-384-2300 or Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.

It is the third homicide of the year in the county, and the second in Coatesvill­e.

According to reports from Coatesvill­e Detective Sgt. Brandon Harris earlier this month, an unnamed man was found lying dead in the street on the city’s north side, with fatal gunshot wounds. He was not identified in the police press release, pending the notificati­on of the family.

The release stated that the death was discovered in the 700 block of East Diamond Street after an initial call for shots being fired in that location.
