Galaxy find way to win without Hernandez

- From staff and wire reports — Damian Calhoun

Any question as to whether the Galaxy could score with Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez missing his second consecutive game was answered early Wednesday.

Hernandez injured his calf during warmups of last Sunday’s game against Sporting Kansas City, and the Galaxy were shut out. Wednesday, the wait for a goal wasn’t long. Rayan Raveloson, in his second game with the Galaxy, opened the scoring by soaring for a header off of a corner kick in the 17th minute and

10 minutes later,

Kevin Cabral scored his first goal for the

Galaxy.

The early offense proved to be a muchneeded boost, sending the Galaxy (8-4,

24 points) to a 3-1 win over FC Dallas in front of 16,453 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Galaxy remain in the third place in the Western Conference, behind Seattle (29 points) and Sporting Kansas City (24 points).

The starting lineup that Greg Vanney sent out only had three goals scored this season (two from Sacha Kljestan and one from Sebastian Lletget).

Even though he has played just seven games, Cabral had created several golden opportunities but had yet to score.

He finally got in the books after taking a perfect cutback pass from Lletget. Cabral was alone inside the 18 and slotted the ball inside the near post.

The Galaxy entered the game short on healthy bodies. The roster was missing 10 players to injury, suspension or international duty. Earlier in the day, the Galaxy signed Daniel Aguirre and Josh Drack from Galaxy II in attempt to have more healthy bodies.

In Sunday’s game against Sporting Kansas City, the Galaxy had just six available subs.

In the 71st minute, FC Dallas spoiled what would have been the perfect evening for the Galaxy when Franco Jara scored.

LAFC hands Austin first home loss

José Cifuentes and Diego Rossi scored and Los Angeles FC beat Austin FC 2-0 for the expansion club’s first loss at Q2 Stadium.

LAFC (5-4-3) won its second straight game on the road after not winning away from home in its previous eight tries. Austin (36-4) has scored just six goals in its last nine matches — with four coming against Portland on Thursday night to snap an eightmatch winless run.

LAFC capitalized on a failed clearance by goalkeeper Brad Stuver in the 39th minute. Kim Moon-Hwan intercepted the bad pass and his shot was denied by Stuver, but Cifuentes was there for the rebound.

Rossi ran past the defense for Carlos Vela’s through ball and sent it past Stuver in the 89th minute.
