Judge leads Yankees to their ninth consecutive triumph

-

Aaron Judge homered twice to run his long-ball streak to three straight games, added the tying RBI in the seventh and helped the visiting New York Yankees rally past the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Sunday for their ninth straight win.

Judge returned from a scheduled day off to connect off Daniel Lynch for a drive estimated at 453 feet to center in the first inning. He added another no-doubt shot in the ninth.

But it was the slugger’s checked-swing groundout, which traveled about 30 feet, that tied the game in the seventh. The oopsie RBI came after the Yankees had loaded the bases against Dylan Coleman (0-1) with nobody out. Josh Donaldson followed it with a goahead grounder that gave New York the lead for good. MARINERS 7, MARLINS 3 » Logan Gilbert kept up his run of impressive starts, Julio Rodríguez hit his first major league homer and Seattle ended host Miami’s seven-game winning streak.

Jesse Winker had three hits and two RBIs for the Mariners, who snapped a four-game skid.

Gilbert (4-0), who struck out five, held the Marlins hitless until Jon Berti’s two-out single in the fifth. The 24-year-old righty was lifted after allowing Brian Anderson’s solo homer with two outs in the sixth.

Rodríguez’s three-run drive against Sandy Alcantara (2-1) made it 5-0 in the sixth.

BLUE JAYS 3, ASTROS 2 » Santiago Espinal drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the seventh inning, Bo Bichette added a two-run homer and Toronto topped visiting Houston.

ROCKIES 10, REDS 1 » Kyle Freeland tossed seven strong innings and Colorado completed a home sweep of struggling Cincinnati.

Brendan Rodgers had two hits and four RBIs, and C.J. Cron and Randal Grichuk homered for the Rockies.

Freeland (1-3) allowed a run and four hits against a Cincinnati team that is off to its worst start in franchise history. The Reds (3-19) have lost six straight and 17 of their last 18 and surpassed the 2018 team that started 4-18. Jeff McNeil also had four of New York’s 15 hits, and Starling Marte drove in three runs.

Scherzer (4-0) struck out his first five batters for the first time in his career and looked overpowering at times. But he gave up two home runs to Mets nemesis Kyle Schwarber, and a solo shot to Bryce Harper on an 0-2 pitch.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner struck out nine and walked one in six innings. He gave up four runs and five hits. RANGERS 7, BRAVES 3 » Adolis Garcia highlighted a three-hit, four-RBI day with a bases-clearing triple in the third inning to help host Texas defeat Atlanta.
