MLB planning to play more games in London

-

Major League Baseball intends to play regular-season games in London in 2023, 2024 and 2026.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox split two games at London's Olympic Stadium in June 2019. The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs were scheduled to play there on June 13-14, 2020, but those games were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cardinals and Cubs are the leading candidates to play in London next year.

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred and London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced the formation of the MLB London Legacy Group that will include members from the Greater London Authority and Baseball Softball UK.

The Chicago White Sox activated right-handed reliever Joe Kelly (right biceps nerve issue) from the injured list.

Kelly, who has been out all season, appeared in 48 games in 2021 with the Dodgers. He went 2-0 with a 2.86 ERA and struck out 50 in 44 innings in his third year with the club.

The Cincinnati Reds placed third baseman Mike Moustakas on the COVID-related injured list.

Moustakas missed eight games on the IL last month with a right biceps strain. He is batting .238 with one homer and six RBIs in 19 games this season, his third with Cincinnati.

Texas Rangers pitcher Jon Gray came out of Monday's game against the New York Yankees because of left knee soreness after allowing two hits in 4 1/3 innings. He was sidelined from April 9-18 with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand and from April 20 to May 3 with a sprained left knee.

Gray signed a four-year, $56 million deal with Texas this past offseason after spending the first seven years of his career with the Colorado Rockies.
