• Kentucky stewards have suspended 2021 Eclipse Award-winning trainer
Brad Cox for 10 days with a $500 fine and disqualifed Warrior’s Charge from his second-place finish in last year’s Stephen Foster Stakes after a post-race positive drug test. The test found Warrior’s Charge had 2.51 micograms per milliliter of phenylbutazone in his blood after the race. Cox’s Mandaloun was declared the winner of the 2021Kentucky Derby after the original winner, Medina Spirit, was disqualified after failing a post-race drug test.
• This year’s 147th Preakness Stakes will be televised by NBC, beginning at 1 p.m. Early coverage of the Preakness undercard will be shown on CNBC beginning at 11 a.m. Friday’s 98th running of the BlackEyed Susan Stakes, also run at Pimlico Race Course, will be televised by the
USA Network beginning at 2p.m. Over the two days, NBC Sports will cover nine races live from Pimlico.
This year’s Preakness drew a field of nine, minus Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike. Epicenter, second in the Derby, is the 6-5 morning-line favorite. Early Voting, second in the Wood Memorial, is the 7-2 second choice and the filly Secret Oath is 9-2.
• Admission gates at Santa Anita will open at 7:15 a.m. Saturday to accommodate fans who want to bet on Pimlico’s Preakness Stakes undercard. The Preakness is scheduled to be run at 4:01 p.m. Ten live races will be run at Santa Anita, including the $75,000 Mizdirectioin Stakes, a race for older fillies and mares down the track’s famed hillside turf course. First race at Santa Anita will go at 1 p.m.
