Carson junior sprinter Reign Redmond said she didn't believe she was going to win the state track championship in the 100 until the last second.

“I had a bad start but I knew as long as I pushed through that I should be OK,” Redmond said.

The sprint sensation overcame her “bad start” to run 11.56 seconds in the 100 and win in the CIF State Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High School in Clovis Saturday night.

“It's honestly amazing, just thanking God for putting me in this position because I knew, win or lose, I was just thankful to even be here,” Redmond said.

She said running 11.45 in the prelims Friday night gave her some confidence but she did not want to let her fast time go to her head.

“I don't like to have that much confidence because when you think you are cocky or don't be humble, that's when something goes wrong,” Redmond said.

Serra junior Brazil Neal finished a close second with an 11.57 and Serra junior Jordan Washington finished third in 11.62, which gave the Cavaliers 14 points toward their goal of winning the girls team state championship.

The Serra girls track team opened the finals with 10 points in the team title race by running 46.08 to win the girls 4x100 relay state championship over Golden Valley, which finished second at 46.42. Carson was fourth in 46.93 and Long Beach Poly was fifth with a time of 47.32.

It was exciting, very fun. Just being able to be here and compete is the biggest thing for me,” said Serra junior sprinter Rodrick Pleasant, who won state championships in the 100 and 200.

Pleasant ran 10.30 in the 100 and 20.56 in the 200. He also anchor Serra's boys 4x100 relay to second place in a time of 41.50.

Pleasant summed up his junior season with one word — success.

“Did some really big things, some exciting things and it was a great experience,” Pleasant said.

Long Beach Jordan sophomore sprinter Jordan Washington ran 10.44 to finish second in the 100 and 21.38 to finish fourth in the 200.
