Marlins' Alcantara pitches another gem against Braves

Sandy Alcantara matched his career high with 14 strikeouts, dominating the Atlanta Braves for the second time in a week and leading the visiting Miami Marlins to a 4-1 victory Saturday.

Alcantara (5-2) allowed only four hits with no walks in eight innings while earning his third consecutiv­e win.

Miguel Rojas had three hits, including a homer off Darren O'Day in the sixth. Garrett Cooper's two-run double off Collin McHugh in the seventh made it 4-1.

Atlanta fell to 4-12 in day games, the worst record in the majors. The Braves began the day hitting only .203 in afternoon games, also the worst mark in the big leagues.

Alcantara also went the distance Sunday in a 4-3 win over the Braves at home.

Braves left-hander Tucker Davidson (1-2) permitted three hits, four walks and one run in five innings.

Right fielder Aristides Aquino threw out pinch-runner Joey Bart at the plate to end the game, and host Cincinnati held off San Francisco behind Kyle Farmer's firstinnin­g three-run homer.

Cincinnati extended its winning streak to four.

Aristides saved this one, nailing Bart trying to score the tying run from second on Wilmer Flores' two-out single in the ninth inning.

Nolan Gorman hit his first major league homer and Matthew Liberatore earned his first major league win, helping St. Louis to a home win over Milwaukee.

Liberatore (1-0), the organizati­on's minor league player of the year last season, pitched five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, struck out six and walked three.

Gorman had four hits, drove in four runs and scored three times. Paul Goldschmid­t had three hits, including a homer, and also had four RBIs while extending his hitting streak to 19 games.

Rookie Bobby Witt Jr. delivered three more doubles for his second straight three-hit game and visiting Kansas City defeated Minnesota.

A double shy of hitting for the cycle Friday, Witt doubled in his first two atbats, both times driving home Andrew Benintendi. Witt added a double in the seventh inning.

Of Witt's 41 hits, 22 have been for extra bases, including a team-best 13 doubles.

Minnesota has lost three of four.

GUARDIANS 8, TIGERS 1 >> José Ramírez homered and drove in five runs, leading Shane Bieber and Cleveland to a victory at Detroit.

Ramírez hit a three-run triple in the seventh and a two-run shot in the ninth for his 12th homer. He has a major league-best 48 RBIs.

Bieber (2-3) allowed one run and eight hits in eight innings. He struck out five and walked none.

Marcus Semien hit a grand slam for his first home run after signing with Texas in the offseason, Corey Seager and Adolis García added backto-back shots and the visiting Rangers had 18 hits in a rout of Oakland.

Semien played with Oakland from 2015-2020 and was an All-Star last season when he hit 45 homers for

Toronto before signing with Texas for seven years and $175 million. Semien also drew a bases-loaded walk.

Nathan Eovaldi pitched a seven-hitter for his first career complete game, and Boston beat Baltimore at Fenway Park.

The matchup was tied at 3 before Bobby Dalbec's pinch-homer in the sixth.

Eovaldi (2-2) allowed two earned runs, struck out six and walked one.

Victor Robles homered, singled twice and drove in a career-high six runs as host Washington routed Colorado.

Robles singled his first two times up. After Colorado rallied within 8-7 in the top of the fourth, he answered in the bottom half with his first homer of the season, a three-run drive.
