Mass shootings and the need to change nation

In the news, many world leaders spoke of the Robb Elementary tragedy. Sadly, mass shootings have become a common occurrence in the U.S. The fact is, mass shootings oftentimes are meticulously planned and find a way around gun control laws. After each heinous event, government officials talk about gun control reform — whether expanded background checks, stringent assault weapons bans or limits on magazine capacity — unfortunately, none of those measures, even if implemented, would have actually prevented any mass shooting. While common sense controls serve a purpose, there’s no common sense in America. Guns, ghost guns, illicit drugs, opioids and so much more are very easy to obtain. America is no longer what it used to be. All these must change. And change must begin from the top. her church leaders and does not infringe upon the state law or the public’s freedom. To those concerned about the church applying any pressure at all on our political leaders and consider this to be a violation of church and state, one might consider the civil rights movement. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. fought against moral injustices that at the time were not considered state injustices. He did this with a biblically motivated love for life and equity.

Proposed California social media addiction bill

Re “Parents could soon sue for social media addiction” (May 24):

Maybe, just maybe if parents of today actually became parents and didn’t let their children have and do anything they wanted we wouldn’t be in the situation we are now. Seems parents want to sue for social media addiction. Yet they take no responsibility for their children’s actions. When a parent gives them phones, computers and video games they should set time limits. and monitor them. Kids can get into all kinds of trouble, yet parents want to sue someone else because they were too lazy to actually be the parent.

Being the “bad guy” isn’t fun but being a parent and bring up a well mannered productive human should be their goal. Otherwise we’ll have another generation of people that don’t want to work and would rather sit around collecting welfare.

Shelley on Donald Trump

Re “Miss me yet?” (May 22): I’m at a loss to understand Susan Shelley’s uncritical adulation of Donald Trump.

I don’t miss him at all, and I wish he’d go away. It can be (and has been) argued that practically any other Republican president could have emulated Trump’s accomplishments without the damage Trump inflicted on himself, on his own party and on the country with his ignorance and egomania. As far as I’m concerned he gave us Joe Biden’s alarming presidency by losing an election he should have won easily. For that I will never forgive him, and I’m disgusted with the Republican party for pampering such a RINO loser who would rather a Democrat win an election than a Republican who fails Trump’s standards of sycophancy to him. What about the Jan. 6 insurrection, Ms. Shelley? Did you like that too? There’s no mention of it in your Trump panegyric.

Biden’s addresses gun control during the grief

Shame on President Biden for addressing the most horrific murder of innocent children and other lives taken when parents are grieving to blame the “Gun Lobby.” Leave politics for another time when appropriate.

Addressing the nation with grief-stricken parents who have lost a loved child is not the time!
