Report: Sea-level rise drops home values
Virginians have lost $280 million in home value, according to a multistate analysis of millions of real estate transactions to determine how much coastal home values have dropped since 2005 due to flooding-related to sea level rise. Newport News lost more than $4 million; Smithfield, nearly $1.5 million; and Gloucester, $1.4 million. Combined with seven other states in the study, the total amount is $14.1 billion.
