Some farmers markets’ regular season winding down

The Williamsbu­rg Farmers Market in Merchants Square offers produce, fruit, fish, artisan cheeses, meats, pasta, cut flowers and handmade soaps. The market includes live music, chef demonstrat­ions and exhibits, along with goods from local shops and restaurant­s. The market is open 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Oct. 27: Children’s day. Music by Thomas Ruark, 9-11 a.m. SHIP at the chefs tent, 9:30-11 a.m. Halloween costume contest, trick-ortreating, pumpkin decorating and more.

The Yorktown Market Days season along the Yorktown waterfront at Riverwalk Landing between Buckner and Ballard Streets is open weekly on Saturdays through Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Free parking will be available at the market in several public parking areas throughout Historic Yorktown. The markets are held rain or shine. In the event of severe inclement weather, call the Yorktown events weather hotline at 757-8903520 for updates.

Smithfield Farmers Market offers locally grown produce, beef, pork, chicken, eggs, plants, herbs, baked goods, coffee, barbecue, ham sandwiches, handcrafte­d items, plus live music each week. The market is held in the BSV parking lot located at 115 Main St. 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Oct. 27.

The Buckroe Beach Farmers Market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through the fall. Vendors selling local produce, baked goods, meats, seafoods and other items are set up near the gazebo on First Street near East Pembroke Ave- nue. Featured market: Beer festival (Nov. 3).

Master Gardener programs

Fall Gardening Seminar Series, 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at Grissom Libary at 366 DeShazor Drive, Newport News. Virginia Living Museum

New Quarter Park

New Quarter Park is located at 1000 Lakeshead Drive in York County near the Queens Lake neighborho­od. Exit from the Co- lonial Parkway at Queens Lake. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and turn onto the first street, Lakeshead Drive. Follow the signs for 2 miles into the park and on to the office.
