6 lo­cal firms get piece of $584M in Navy con­tracts

Con­struc­tion work, ship re­pair and dredg­ing were among the high­lights of de­fense con­tracts awarded to com­pa­nies in greater Hamp­ton Roads in Oc­to­ber.

The Navy awarded three con­struc­tion con­tracts that to­tal $584 mil­lion and name mul­ti­ple com­pa­nies, in­clud­ing six firms from the re­gion.

As­turian-Con­sigli JV from Vir­ginia Beach will share in a max­i­mum $249 mil­lion con­tract to work on general con­struc­tion projects in Hamp­ton Roads area. Its first job will be worth $2.94 mil­lion for foun­da­tion and crawl space re­pairs at Wal­lops Is­land.

The se­cond con­tract names four com­pa­nies from the re­gion — and has a com­bined po­ten­tial value of $95 mil­lion. It cov­ers heat­ing, ven­ti­la­tion and air con­di­tion­ing con­struc­tion prod­ucts in Hamp­ton Roads.

Named are Dav­con Inc., Vir­ginia Beach; Delaware Corp., Mid­dle­sex County; Rand En­ter­prises, New­port News and Within In­te­rior De­sign do­ing busi­ness as Tazewell Con­tract­ing, Nor­folk. The first task or­der for $148,400 goes to Dav­con and cov­ers work at Joint Ex­pe­di­tionary Base Lit­tle Creek-Fort Story in Vir­ginia Beach.

The third con­tract names ECC-MEZ LLC of Vir­ginia Beach among other com­pa­nies for work at Camp Le­mon­nier, Dji­bouti and ad­di­tional lo­ca­tions. The com­bined value is $240 mil­lion.

Hunt­ing­ton In­galls In­dus­tries re­ceived two awards in Oc­to­ber: a $7.03 mil­lion add-on to a pre­vi­ously awarded con­tract that re­lates to work on stan­dard Navy valves for air­craft car­ri­ers and sub­marines, and $44.7 mil­lion for re­pairs and up­grades to the guid­ed­mis­sile de­stroyer USS O’Kane. The work will be per­formed at HII’s San Diego ship­yard.

Colonna’s Ship­yard, Nor­folk, was awarded $7.96 mil­lion for the over­haul of the USNS Spear­head. If all op­tions are ex­er­cised, the deal would be worth $9.1 mil­lion.

Nor­folk Dredg­ing Co., Ch­e­sa­peake, re­ceived $13.5 mil­lion for main­te­nance dredg­ing of the Delaware River. The job should be com­pleted by March 2019.

At­lantic Div­ing Sup­ply, Vir­ginia Beach, do­ing busi­ness as ADS, will share in a max­i­mum $78 mil­lion con­tract awarded by the De­fense Lo­gis­tics Agency for fire and emer­gency ser­vices equip­ment. Five other com­pa­nies were named.

WR Sys­tems Ltd., Nor­folk, has re­ceived a $49.9 mil­lion con­tract for en­gi­neer­ing, de­sign and other ser­vices. The con­tract was is­sued through the Space and Naval War­fare Sys­tems Cen­ter At­lantic, Charleston, S.C.

Kal­man and Com­pany Inc., Vir­ginia Beach, was among a dozen com­pa­nies named in a $249 mil­lion Army con­tract to sup­port the Joint Pro­gram Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fice for Chem­i­cal and Bi­o­log­i­cal De­fense.

Com­pa­nies in New­port News and Ch­e­sa­peake were among firms awarded a $473 mil­lion Air Force con­tract that pro­vides re­sources nec­es­sary to per­form equip­ment cal­i­bra­tions. The com­pa­nies are ACR Tech­ni­cal Ser­vices, New­port News and Gold­belt C6, Ch­e­sa­peake.

Fi­nally, the largest award of the month was an Army con­tract that en­com­passed 198 com­pa­nies and has a po­ten­tial value of $37.4 bil­lion over 10 years. It cov­ers a range of govern­ment pro­grams that fall un­der the general cat­e­gory of C4ISR, which stands for com­mand, con­trol, com­mu­ni­ca­tions, com­put­ers, in­tel­li­gence, sur­veil­lance and re­con­nais­sance.

In­cluded in the long list of awardees were Gstek Inc., Ch­e­sa­peake; Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy Corp., Hamp­ton; Uni­ver­sal So­lu­tions In­ter­na­tional Inc., New­port News and QED Sys­tems, Vir­ginia Beach.
