The Phantoms knocked off Norcom 7-6 in a soggy, marathon Class 3 Region A championsh­ip game Saturday at Darling Stadium in Hampton.

Hargraves’ fourth-down TD catch, Wallace’s PAT send Phoebus to semis

HAMPTON — Phoebus can spell redemption multiple ways following its 7-6 tripleover­time win over Norcom on Saturday at Darling Stadium in the Class 3 Region A championsh­ip game.

The Phantoms could go with Barry Har- graves, who caught the game-tying touchdown pass. Or they could pick Anthony Wallace, who sent them into the Class 3 state semifinals with the winning extra point after Hargraves’ catch.

Or they could think of it numericall­y. As the Phantoms hugged one another in the quagmire that was the Darling Stadium field after four quarters and three overtimes played in an often-heavy downpour, Wallace and Phoebus coach Jeremy Blunt recalled the 7-6 loss to eventual state champion Hopewell in the regional playoffs a year ago.
