Ninety years ago, the world’s long­est bridge opened on the lower James River. At nearly 5 miles long, the first fixed link across Hamp­ton Roads not only tied the Penin­sula to the rest of the re­gion but also con­nected it to an im­por­tant na­tional north­south route.
