General Assembly opens 400th session

State lawmakers opened their 46-day session Wednesday. It marked the 400th anniversary since the first meeting took place in Jamestown — the nation’s oldest legislature. Sparring began over what to do with a $1.2 billion federal tax windfall following the ceremonial opening. Other topics of interest in the short 46-day session include the Equal Rights Amendment and several environmental bills.
