Elon ends Tribe’s season in CAA tourney semifinal

William & Mary's baseball season ended Saturday with a 9-2 semifinal loss to top-seeded Elon at the Colonial Athletic Associatio­n tournament in Harrisonbu­rg.

The Phoenix took a 32-23 record against UNC Wilmington for the championsh­ip. The Seahawks were to have two tries to earn the title and its accompanyi­ng NCAA regional berth.

Freshman Ty Adock's three-run homer to right field put Elon ahead in the first inning, and Kyle Brnovich pitched eight innings for the victory. He yielded seven hits, including Hunter Smith's RBI single in the third and Brandon Raquet's solo home run in the eighth.

Elon scored at least a run in five of the final six innings to pull out the victory. W&M lost for the second time in about 17 hours — the Tribe fell 5-1 to UNCW Friday night.

UNC 13, Boston College 5

Michael Busch had four hits, including a two-run homer, to pace a 13-hit attack at Durham Bulls Athletic Park as North Carolina took a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championsh­ip game.

The Tar Heels (41-17) will play at noon today against the winner of the late game between N.C. State and Georgia Tech, then will head to an NCAA regional.

The Tar Heels led 7-1 until BC (31-27) scored four times in the sixth. UNC responded with three runs in the sixth and three in the eighth.

Campbell 8, Winthrop 6

The regular-season champion Camels (35-19) won the Big South tournament title in Fayettevil­le, N.C., thanks in part to Matthew Barefoot's three hits, two runs and three RBIs. His home run put Campbell ahead in the bottom of the seventh. Liberty 5, Jacksonvil­le 2 Liberty 6, Stetson 3

New to the conference, the Flames forced a winner-take-all championsh­ip game today at the Atlantic Sun tournament in

Deland, Fla., with a pair of wins.

First, they ousted Jacksonvil­le behind pitcher Landon Riley's 4 1⁄ score

3 less innings and by scoring five times in the sixth inning.

Then Liberty handed the tournament host Hatters their first loss of the event, going ahead 6-1 with a four-run sixth. Former Peninsula Pilots standout Jonathan Embry was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
