1,307 new coronavirus cases reported in Virginia on Saturday

The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,307 new coronavirus cases Saturday, bringing the state’s tally to 99,189.

At least 2,322 Virginians have died from the virus as of Saturday morning, up five from Friday.

Of the total cases, 95,326 are confirmed and 3,863 are probable, meaning those patients are symptomatic and have a known exposure to the illness.

Throughout the state, there have been 8,387 cases in long-term care facilities and 1,274 deaths, according to data from the VDH.

The state’s seven-day percentage of positive PCR tests rose slightly to 7.5% Saturday. Virginia reported 14,161 new PCR tests were performed. The state’s total now stands at 1,219,165.

There are 1,258 people currently hospitalized for COVID-19, according to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. Of those, 896 have confirmed cases and 362 are awaiting test results. So far, 12,843 COVID-19 patients have been discharged.

In Virginia, people older than 80 account for 4,564 cases and 1,148 deaths — up four from Friday. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down for cases and deaths:

70-79: 4,856 cases (up 57), 583 deaths (up 1)

60-69: 9,346 cases (up 109), 357 deaths (up 2)

50-59: 14,341 cases (up 183), 144 deaths (minus 1)

40-49: 16,435 cases (up 213), 62 deaths (no change)

30-39: 17,954 cases (up 241), 20 deaths (no change)

20-29: 19,149 cases (up 280), 6 deaths (no change)

10-19: 7,804 cases (up 111), 0 deaths (no change)

0-9: 3,454 cases (up 47), 0 deaths (no change)

The VDH did not report ages for 1,045 cases and two deaths. The department has occasionally reported a decrease in the number of deaths in the daily reports. When asked about it, a spokesman for the state’s health department said some data may be entered incorrectly.

Since the pandemic began in Virginia, 50,760 women have had cases and 1,135 women have died, while 47,808 men have had cases and 1,182 men have died. Of the state tally, 621 cases don’t have a reported sex and five deaths don’t have a reported sex.
