Langley airman found guilty of sexually assaulting colleague

HAMPTON — An airman at Langley Air Force Base was found guilty last week of sexually assaulting a colleague.

On the night of Dec. 6 “at or near Hampton,”

Adam M. Rodela “did touch the breast and vulva of Airman First Class (redacted) with his hand, with an intent to gratify his sexual desire” without her consent, according to an Air Force charge sheet.

Unlike civilian court, the military generally does not release details about cases beyond the charge sheets. Langley’s public affairs office did not respond to a reporte r ’s question about whether the assault took place on base.

Rodela is assigned to Langley’s 1st Operations Support Squadron. According to the base’s website, the squadron is “responsibl­e for all facets of airfield operations,” including air traffic control, aircrew life support and training, intelligen­ce analysis and support, weapons and tactics training and more.

He entered the service for a six-year term in 2018.

At a special court martial, Rodela was found guilty of violating the Uniformed Code of Military Justice section on sexual assault, according to a statement from Joint Base Langley-Eustis.

He was sentenced to a year’s confinemen­t, a reprimand and a reduction in rank from E-3 to E-1.
