Man, 26, charged in shooting
A 26-year-old Hampton man was charged in a shooting that happened Friday afternoon.
Javon Armstead faces one count each of maiming, using a firearm to commit a felony, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and discharging a firearm in public.
Around 4:10 p.m. Friday, police received word of a shooting in the 2700 block of North Armistead Avenue, according to a department news release.
When there, officers found a 24-year-old woman who was struck with gunfire. She was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Police said their investigation indicates the victim was in an altercation with a man she knew when he took out a gun and shot her.
Armstead is in custody at
the Hampton City Jail.
